Stories for Young Readers: Charlie the Boastful Rooster

Charlie was the loudest rooster in the farmyard, and he loved to brag about it. “No one can crow as well as I can!” he boasted to the other animals. Every morning, Charlie would puff out his chest and crow loudly, waking up the entire farm.

One day, a new rooster, Rocky, arrived. He was quiet and humble, but the other animals were curious. “Can you crow, Rocky?” asked the sheep.

Rocky nodded and let out a clear, strong crow that echoed across the fields. The animals cheered, amazed by his talent. Charlie, feeling threatened, shouted, “That’s nothing! Watch me!”

He flapped his wings so hard to outdo Rocky that he tumbled off the barn roof and landed in the muddy pigpen. The animals gasped, and Charlie felt embarrassed.

Rocky helped him up and said, “It’s not about being the best; it’s about doing your part.” Charlie realized he didn’t need to boast to be valued. From then on, he crowed humbly each morning and became friends with Rocky.

Moral: Pride and boasting can lead to trouble. Stay humble.
